SHORT COURSE – Winter Wildlife Walks
January 29, 2018 @ 10:00 am - February 19, 2018 @ 12:00 pm
Mondays 10am – 12pm
Enjoy some invigorating fresh air and winter scenery, walk off the excesses of the festive season and discover winter wildlife in London. This walking course will guide you through woodland, wetland and parkland landscapes identifying and observing the wildlife within.
Winter is a surprisingly rewarding time to be outdoors and enjoy wildlife. Without the leaves on the trees the landscapes open up and birds can be more easily seen. This is the time to spot birds that migrate to us for the winter, include Redwing and Fieldware along with ducks like Shoveller and Teal. In wetlands sites the numbers of over-wintering birds can be extraordinary. The trees are in bud and this presents a brilliant way to identify the many different species. The mammals which don’t hibernate are busy finding food and are often easier to see. Over all, this is a season not to be missed!
This course includes an introduction to winter wildlife at City Lit followed by a series of three guided walks at Walthamstow Wetlands, Hampstead Heath and Wimbledon Common.
