London Cherry Blossom

What an amazing display London’s cherry blossoms are putting on at the moment! A cherry is any tree in the genus Prunus. The most common variety of ornamental cherry which blossoms in the UK is Prunus serrulata, a Japenese species. There are many cultivated varieties and the blossom can be anything from white to a deep pink.

In Japan “Hanami” is the centuries-old practice of picnicking under a blooming cherry tree. Cherry trees feature strongly in Japanese art.
